In January 1971, Elvis received what he considered to be the highest honor in the coveted Junior Chamber of Commerce Ten Outstanding Young Men of the Year award. Shortly after receiving this memorable recognition, Elvis flew to Los Angeles before heading to Las Vegas to open his engagement at the International Hotel. The offered small blue National Bank of Commerce in Memphis check was written for “Cash” for one thousand dollars on January 23, 1971. The check is hand numbered in red ink “912” and signed by Elvis “EA Presley” in bold, blue ink. The notation indicates the cash as “Personal” and the cancellation markings indicate that the check was cashed in Las Vegas, likely making it pocket money for his stay in Las Vegas during that period. The reverse of the check contains several cancellation stampings including a Jan 24, 1971 “Pay to the order of Nevada Nat’l Bank Int’l Hotel Inc” stamp. Elvis ended his series of performances during this engagement on February 23 and he and Priscilla remained in Las Vegas until March 2nd to attend Ann-Margret’s opening at the Hotel and to see the Irish Royal Show Band at the Stardust. The check measures 2 3/4 by 6 1/4 inches (6.98 x 15.87 cm) and is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated.

The check shows expected signs of wear from cancellations, but otherwise presents with few defects. Near Mint condition.
