1969 was another pivotal year in Elvis’ career as he made the evolution from big screen Hollywood actor to musical entertainer once again when he began his successful long run as a headliner in Las Vegas, performing to packed houses and grateful audiences. This incredible turning point came with his NBC television special, widely known as the ‘68 Comeback Special, that reintroduced this singing heartthrob to the stage and live performances. The return had an overwhelming reception, paving the way for the remainder of Elvis’ on-stage career. Offered is Elvis’ signed W4 from 1969 indicating one exception under the “Married” category for Priscilla, whom he wed in May 1967. While Lisa Marie was born just one month prior to the signing of this withholding certificate, Elvis has not yet listed her as an exemption. Elvis has listed his address as 3764 Highway 51 South in Memphis with his social security number appearing in the upper right. A handwritten notation of “M#746510” appears in the upper right corner. The form has been signed along the bottom edge in blue ink by “Elvis A. Presley,” and the form has also been signed and dated “3/13/69” with an indecipherable signature to the left of Elvis’. The signatures are not concealed by the mat, but the paper itself has been trimmed, slightly interfering with only the very lower portion of the signatures. There is a vertical staple on the left and a horizontal staple on the bottom right. A faint “2” has been erased along the bottom line, likely because the Colonel preferred Elvis pay more up front to avoid an audit. The original Employee’s Withholding Exemption Certificate has been handsomely framed with a copy of a photograph of Elvis strumming his guitar with the tooled leather cover. The framed display measures 20 1/2 by 14 by 1/2 inch (52.07 x 35.56 x 1.27 cm) and is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated.

The withholding certificate appears to be in excellent condition overall with minor paper loss in the upper left corner. The frame is in excellent condition with minor scratching to the surface and an area of loss to the finish in the lower right corner. The form has been trimmed along the bottom edge.
