While Elvis adored sports as well as all things motorized, it was more infrequently that he was spotted on the slopes. In fact, he is known to have taken only two vacations to enjoy the snowy sports. One was in January 1969 when he, Priscilla and a young Lisa Marie fly to Aspen, Colorado for a ski and snowmobile vacation where they celebrate Lisa Marie’s first birthday. The second was a trip to Vail, Colorado in January 1976 to celebrate Elvis’ own 41st birthday.

It is rumored that during this trip, Dr. Nick’s son Dean was injured on the slopes, requiring a visit to the local hospital. Upon noticing on Dr. Nick’s insurance card that he is in the employ of Elvis Presley Enterprises, the nurse mockingly asks, “So where is Elvis?” without realizing that the ski mask-clad King is standing right in front of her. When she pointedly asks of him, “And who are you?” he calmly replies, “The Lone Ranger.” The nurse, having none of what she thought were just shenanigans, simply went about her business. During this trip, Elvis appears on the slopes only in the evenings and in a rented skimobile. His nighttime adventures prompt President Ford’s daughter to complain of local violations by Elvis which prompts a National Enquirer headline “It’s Elvis, the Nightstalker.”

Offered is the royal blue colored ski jacket that Elvis wore during this snowy holiday on the slopes. The royal blue, quilted-square zip-front jacket has a blue faux fur interior, zip-together hood, zip-closure side pockets and dark, wide band cuffs perfect for keeping warm in the chilly temperatures. The small interior tag indicates the size as “LARGE.” Elvis later gifted this jacket to Stamps member Ed Hill, who was best known for his backstage announcement, originally uttered by Horace Logan on the Louisiana Hayride, at the end of a concert: “Ladies and gentlemen, Elvis has left the building. Thank you and goodnight.” The jacket comes with a copy of a Mike Moon certificate listing the jacket as one of the items he purchased from Ed Hill of the Stamps Quartet on March 21, 1982. The jacket is listed as “2. Royal blue ‘Vail, CO trip’ ski jacket.” The letter is also signed by Charlie Hodge. Also included is a letter from “EP Archives” of Las Vegas, Nevada, indicating that the offered jacket was among the items purchased from the Mike Moon collection in 2018. The letter theorizes that the jacket was gifted to Ed Hill during the October 1976 Jungle Room sessions at Graceland. While many items of clothing were handed out by Elvis at that time, we cannot confirm this detail, but many images of Elvis wearing the offered jacket while riding his motorcycle at Graceland in 1976 exist. A copy of one the photos is included with the lot. This blue ski jacket that helped keep the King warm on the snowy slopes and in his own backyard in 1976 is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated.

The jacket presents with expected wear from use, but no major defects. Excellent condition.
