Promotional photos were shot of Elvis throughout his career, beginning with the more famous William Speer images. The photos were often printed with an Elvis signature and stamped on the back with names of specific Elvis movies. Promotional photos were used for a plethora of advertising, including on posters, merchandising, fan giveaways, record sleeves, and much more. The offered images, used during the 1950s and 1960s to promote films, albums, merchandising and the rising star in all forms of publications, are rarely seen in such a vast grouping. The collection consists of a wide range of black-and-white images with only three of the same image and only one in color. The collection includes:

  • Iconic image of Elvis originally taken on January 31, 1955 at the Fort Homer Hesterly Armory in Tampa. This image was widely used on merchandising, promotions and as Elvis’ first album cover;
  • Four (4) 1955 promotional images of Elvis taken by William Speer, three similar and one different;
  • 1956 color image of Elvis taken at the Frontier Hotel by Moss Photo Service;
  • 1956 Publicity shoot at Carnegie Hall’s “Caruso Room” for RCA;
  • Twenty (20) 1956 promotional images for Love Me Tender
  • 1957 promotional images for Jailhouse Rock
  • 1964 promotional images for Girl Happy;
  • 1965 promotional images for Harum Scarum; and
  • Two (2) additional images, one with Elvis in uniform and another in a cowboy costume.

These early promotional photos range in size from 4 3/4 by 3 3/4 inches (12/06 x 9.52 cm) to 10 by 7 3/4 inches (25.4 x 19.68 cm), with most measuring 5 by 4 inches (12.7 x 10.16 cm). This collection of thirty-two (32) images is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated.

The collection is in excellent condition overall with some lesser, having been removed from a scrapbook and retaining residue on the back.
