In May 1970 work was underway to create a special package release that would utilize Elvis’ existing material. After the success of the budget-price Camden albums, The Colonel wished to capitalize on Elvis’ older material by compiling a four-LP box set release for a special price. This special four-LP set, Worldwide 50 Gold Award Hits Vol. 1, would be released in August 1970. This compilation box of 51 hit songs was Elvis’ 38th album and was certified gold by the RIAA on February 1973. Gold discs were awarded by RIAA for album sales in excess of one million dollars from 1958 to 1974. This framed award displays a plaque, next to a small image of the album cover and mounted beneath the gold record with orange label, that reads “Presented to ELVIS PRESLEY to commemorate the sale of more than one million dollars worth of the RCA RECORDS long-playing record album ‘WORLDWIDE 50 GOLD AWARD HITS, VOL. 1,’” all set against a white linen matte background. With over 50 of Elvis’ hits, this compilation boxed set was a must have for any Elvis enthusiast in 1970. The framed award measures 21 1/2 by 17 1/2 inches (54.61 x 44.45 cm) and is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated.
The award presents with some scratches and wear to the wooden frame, and the award area has some minor areas of staining. Excellent to Mint condition.
