This framed RIAA Certified Sales Award was “Presented to RCA RECORDS to commemorate the sale of more than one million copies of the RCA RECORDS Single Record ‘Are You Lonesome Tonight’” by Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). Shortly after the end of his Army service, Elvis returned to the studio and in April 1960 recorded “Are You Lonesome Tonight.” The song, originally written by Roy Turk and Lou Handman in 1926, was suggested by Colonel Parker because it was a favorite tune of his wife. The recording was released as a single with “I Gotta Know” on side B on November 1, 1960 and topped the Billboard chart after selling 1.2 million copies by the second week after its release. The song remained at the top of the charts into January the following year and sales exceeded two million copies worldwide just three months after release. The single was certified gold by RIAA in April 1983. This framed display features a metallic record above a gold-colored plaque, both mounted against a black backing with gold frame. The framed award measures 17 by 13 inches (43.18 x 33.02 cm) and is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated.
The award has some mild scuffing to the frame. Near Mint condition.
