Elvis was an avid football fan, both of watching the sport and of tossing the pigskin around himself. He so loved watching professional football, he was known to view three games simultaneously on his televisions in Graceland. In an early 1960s interview he ranked football just beneath music as his favorite pastime. Elvis even sponsored his own team for a bit. Football was a sport he loved and which provided him an outlet, so Elvis would often toss the pigskin around on the grounds of Graceland or at nearby Memphis parks. The offered photograph captures Elvis playing quarterback, cocked back ready to toss what appears to be a looooong pass! The photo’s quality, contrast, focus and printing method all indicate this was a professional news photograph, perhaps in the late 1950s or early 1960s. The setting is most likely a Memphis park, based on the large field and distant tree line in the background. The photo measures 8 by 10 inch (20.32 x 25.4 cm) and is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated.
The photo presents with pinholes in the corners, several fold lines and creases, and a large sticker adhered to the reverse for a collectibles seller (though this in no way affects the front of the photo). Very Good condition.
