On August 17, 1977 the local Memphis paper, The Commercial Appeal, announced the passing of Elvis the previous day with the headline, “Death Captures Crown of Rock and Roll - Elvis Dies Apparently After Heart Attack.” After his death, thousands flocked to Graceland to pay their tributes, with over 80,000 fans lining the processional route. Even President Jimmy Carter was quoted saying that Elvis “permanently changed the face of American popular culture.” Condolences poured in from around the world and the family took great care in sending notes of thanks for the plethora of sympathies expressed. Offered is a prime example of the unsigned thank you card that was mailed to fans and friends who reached out to the Presley family after the tragic loss of Elvis. This simple ivory Hallmark brand notecard relays on the front “The family of Elvis Aron Presley acknowledges with grateful appreciation your kind expression of sympathy.” The notecard comes with the front page sections from the August 17, 1977 issues of both Memphis newspapers, The Commercial Appeal and Memphis Press-Scimitar. Also included is a modern 8 by 10 copy of what is commonly thought of as the last photo of Elvis, taken as he speeds by in his car near the gates of Graceland. A musical icon was lost that dark day, but the memory and legacy of Elvis live on. The notecard measures 3 3/4 by 5 1/4 inches (9.52 x 13.33 cm) and is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated.

The notecard is mildly stained and exhibits with some mild toning. Excellent condition.
Notecard of Appreciation for Condolences from “The Family of Elvis Aron Presley” Plus Aug. 17, 1977, Front Pages of Both Memphis Newspapers and “Last Photo” of Elvis
