Elvis was quick to return to work after leaving Germany. He came home to the U.S. in March of 1960 and began filming G.I. Blues that April. The film was released by Paramount in November of 1960 and reached number 14 as the top-grossing movie of 1960, bringing in $4.3 million. While fans were certainly excited to see Elvis return to the US and the big screen, image the thrill for Mr. Mank at receiving one hundred paper hats directly from Colonel Parker’s office to distribute among the members of his club. Offered is not only one of those paper hats for G.I. Blues, but a copy of the letter from Tom Diskin that accompanied the shipment. The hat reads “Now...At your favorite theatre ELVIS’ ‘G.I. BLUES’ a Hal Wallis Production-a Paramount Picture” and features an illustration of Elvis in his Army uniform. The missive reads: “Dear Mr. Mank: One hundred ELVIS PRESLEY paper overseas hats are being sent to you and the members of your club with the compliments of Colonel Parker. The Colonel had these made up as a souvenir of the ‘G. I. BLUES’ movie and the LP album. You might like to wear these for your meetings, for your projects or when you go to see the movie. Sorry, but additional hats are not available. We send best wishes to you all. Sincerely, Tom Diskin.” This is a unique combination of this sought-after souvenir hat and the correspondence from Colonel Parker’s office to a fan club. The hat measures 5 1/2 by 8 1/2 inches (13.97 x 21.59 cm) and is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated.

The correspondence contains tape residue on the reverse that has bled to be visible from the front. The hat is in excellent condition.
