TV Guide was a bi-weekly publication listing upcoming television programming that was founded by Lee Wagner in 1948. The first issue was released on April 3, 1953. While the publication was a listing of programs, it also included other features, articles and interviews to draw readers with additional content. The “Insider” section led the color pages with television news and interviews with top celebrities of the day. It wasn’t long before the young, charming, budding star Elvis was featured on the cover on multiple issues, as fans were hungry for anything Elvis, and TV Guide was happy to deliver. Offered are two issues, and one of TV Magazine with Elvis and Frank Sinatra on the cover, that contain articles about the mega-star. The issues feature installments of an article about Elvis’ career to that point. Part II of the Elvis article series appears in the September 22-28, 1956 issue (with Hal March on the cover) and is titled “What Folks Back Home Say About Presley” and continues with the subheading, “The Folks He Left Behind Him.” The third and last in the series appears in the next week’s issue, September 29-October 5, 1956 (with Jackie Gleason on the cover), and is titled “Presley’s Own Answer to His Critics,” the subtitle of which is “He Tells How the Little Wiggle Grew.” Each article contains multiple images of the rising star, including pictures of Elvis on The Steve Allen Show and with Milton Berle. The additional TV Guide-like publication is the TV Magazine from The Detroit News for May 8-14, 1960 that features Elvis and Frank Sinatra on the cover. All issues measure 7 1/2 by 5 inches (19.05 x 12.7 cm). These three television program listing publications come with a yellow TV Guide advertising sheet that features an image of the cover of the May 7 issue of TV Guide with an illustration of Elvis and Frank Sinatra and touts the “terrific article on Elvis’ return and his popularity - past and present.” The advertising sheet measures 11 by 8 1/2 inches (27.94 x 21.59 cm) and the group of four pieces is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated.

All of the publications are in excellent condition with typical edge wear, while the publication with Elvis on the cover has minor surface wear and soiling.
