Throughout his life, Elvis was fascinated by religions and spirituality, and as an avid reader he owned many books on a variety of religious subjects. It is believed that the day Elvis lost his beloved mother is when he began to question the meaning of life and why a loving God would permit such an occurrence. Being a voracious reader, Elvis sought to discover answers to this and many other spiritual, theological and philosophical questions in his books. His quest lingered in one of his favorites, The Prophet by Kahlil Gibran. The book of poems gained fame in the 1960s with the counter-culture in America and was one that Elvis sought to share with family and friends. He was so enamored of the teachings of this book that he gave away many copies, often with notations on certain passages. Offered is a framed page from one of Elvis’ personal copies of The Prophet on which he has underlined the passage “And even as each one of you stands alone in God’s knowledge, so must each one of you be alone in his knowledge of God and in his understanding of the earth.” Added at the bottom of the page is the handwritten notation, “Let God into your life and everything will be revealed.” Elvis’ faith never waned and these passages are evidence of his beliefs.

This heavily marked page comes with a booklet that contains images of the original book with this page still intact within the book before this page was removed and framed. The booklet indicates that in this book, 16 sheets (22 pages) had notes contained on them. Also included in the booklet is a copy of a letter from Vester Presley that states, “My name is Vester Preslev [sic] and I am Vernon Preslev’s [sic] brother and Elvis’ uncle. In 1957 Elvis asked me to work full time for him at Graceland which I did. I was chief security at the world famous Graceland gates. This book The Prophet was one of Elvis’ favorite books which he read all the time. All the handwriting and the underlines in the book were done by Elvis. I was witness the day that he gave this copy of his Prophet to Aunt Delta and signed it to her.” In addition, the booklet contains a copy of a letter from Aunt Delta Biggs, dated March 24, 1978 that states, “As everyone knows I was Elvis’ aunt. Elvis asked me to move into Graceland in 1967. I have lived here since that time. Elvis always read a lot. Of course his favorite book was the bible. But he read all kinds of books about religion and ither [sic] spiritual things. Elvis would always underline certain passages in the book and write his own thoughts and notes in the margins of the book. This book The Prophet was one of Elvis’ favorite books, he began to read it in the 1950s. This book The Prophet which Elvis has inscribed to me was given to me by Elvis.” This special page with Elvis’ own notations indicating the text he felt held great importance has been framed in a handsome display in order to highlight the significance of this treasured object. The framed display measures 19 by 16 inches (48.26 x 40.64 cm) and is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated.

The page presents in Near Mint condition.
