On November 15, 1956 Elvis attends Liberace’s late show at the Cover Room of the Riviera Hotel and his first film Love Me Tender opens at the Paramount theater in NYC. On this same day, Jack Horwitz, musician director at the Cleveland Arena, sends a telegram to Tom Diskin regarding Elvis’ upcoming concert. Elvis is scheduled to perform on November 23 at the Arena in Cleveland, Ohio (this tour begins the day before in the Sports Arena in Toledo, Ohio with an afternoon and evening show). The offered Western Union telegram states, “Tom Diskin Manager of Elvis Presley Call me at Skyline 1-5454 regarding details for your show at the Arena November 23rd. As music director and contractor of the arena I must have the details regarding time for my band to entertain Also if you require my orchestra to play for the show. We have a minimum rate for two hours before the show to entertain and also another price if we are to play for the show. Our musicians local requires a minimum of twelve musicians for any show that goes to the arena in Cleveland. If you call I will name the price for these two shows. One starts at four o’clock and another at eight pm. For all indications show looks like a big success. Either call me around 12 o’clock noon Cleveland time or after 6O’clock [sic] any day or write me a letter explaining all details for your show. Thanking you Jack Horwitz 3527 Norwood Rd. Shaker Heights.” The bottom of the telegram has been heavily notated in red ink with opening acts, at least two of which played in the show. Additional figures and times also appear in these notations. The Western Union Telegram logo is repeatedly printed down the left edge. A fascinating peek into part of the process of staging a show at a certain location. The telegram measures 10 3/4 by 8 1/2 inches (27.30 x 21.59 cm) and is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated.

The telegram, with only a small tear on the right edge, presents with few defects. Near Mint condition.
