Colonel Tom Parker was not only a master of advertising and promotion, but he had quite a witty sense of humor as evidenced by his Snowman’s League, a “club” he invented for those elite members that were keenly adept at all forms of persuasion, as well as his often dark-humored remarks made to colleges and cohorts. He was also adept at fostering relationships that could prove beneficial with simple gestures. The offered Western telegram is an ideal example of his thoughtful technique. The telegram is addressed to Mr. James Cagney, Executive Director, Paramount Pictures, Hollywood, Calif. and states, “Dear Mr. Cagney Congratulations on your directorship. If this is not the correct wording it means good luck from Colonel Tom Parker and Elvis. Respectfully, Colonel Tom Parker.” Although not dated, the telegram is likely from early 1957 when Elvis and the Colonel were at Paramount Studios in California filming Loving You, which would be released in July 1957. Their time at Paramount likely overlapped with the famous actor James Cagney who was executing his only directorial effort at Paramount with the film Short Cut to Hell, which would be released later that year in September. The Colonel appreciated the advantage of having friends in high places with important roles. The short, congratulatory missive is typewritten on Western Union paper, measures 5 1/2 by 8 inches (13.97 x 20.32 cm) and is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated.

The telegram presents in very clean, Near Mint condition.
