In November of 1956 Elvis and his cousin Gene Smith rented a Cadillac and took a road trip to Las Vegas. While in Vegas, Elvis met Liberace and also began dating Dottie Harmony, a Las Vegas singer and dancer who would later accompany Elvis to his pre-induction Army physical on January 4, 1957. Offered is the original yellow carbon “customer” copy of the Hertz rental agreement dated November 12, 1956 from this very trip. Included with the receipt is a yellow Hertz rental car windowed envelope with return address 660 Madison Ave., New York 21, NY postmarked March 30, 1961 and a Hertz Auto-matic International Charge Card for E A Presley of 3764 Hwy 51 S, Memphis, Tenn. with its original folded, full-color brochure. Hertz Rental Car Company was founded in 1918 by Walter Jacobs of Chicago and was called Rent-a-Car Inc at the time, with a dozen Motel T Fords as its starter fleet. The company grew to over 500 vehicles within five years and was purchased by John D. Hertz in 1923, at which time the company changed its name to Hertz. While after the date of the offered rental agreement, in 1967, Hertz became a subsidiary of RCA, an appropriate relationship for a company renting to the musical legend and King of Rock ‘n’ Roll. The receipt measures 7 3/4 by 7 7/8 inches (19.68 x 20.0 cm), the envelope measures 4 by 7 3/8 inches (10.16 x 18.73 cm), the folded advertising brochure measures 3 3/4 by 7 1/8 inches (9.52 x 18.09 cm), and the Hertz credit card measures 2 1/8 by 3 1/4 inches (5.39 x 8.25 cm). This period ephemera collection originally emanated from the 1999 Graceland Archives Auction (lot A178) and is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated.

The charge card shows little to no wear. The receipt and envelope are clean and free of defects with the brochure containing only a minor tear where the card would be held. Near Mint condition overall.
