In 1964, MGM released the swinging hot film Viva Las Vegas starring the heart-throb Elvis Presley and the beauty Ann-Margret in this musical comedy that was a box office success. Regarded as one of Elvis’ best movies, in part for the on (and off) screen chemistry between the co-stars, Viva Las Vegas reached number 14 in the top 20 movies of 1964 and grossed over $9 million. The soundtrack for the film, released in May 1964 to coincide with the film’s opening, did not achieve the same level of success upon release as the movie, hitting 92 on Billboard’s top 100 chart. Of the 15 songs recorded, only nine were used in the film. Elvis was producing films at such a rapid rate during this period that his stable of songwriters were beginning to have a tough time keeping up with the constant demand for new soundtrack material. It was Doc Pomus and Mort Sherman that created the song “I Need Somebody To Lean On,” one of the tunes used on the soundtrack album and recorded by Elvis on July 10, 1963 at Radio Recorders in Hollywood. Offered is a Radio Recorders acetate with a yellow-and-black label that contains the typed information “7-10-63 / 78 rpm / #2005 take 20 / I Need Somebody To Lean On / time 3:01” with a blank reverse. The three-day session during which this song was recorded employed one of the largest groups of musicians to date in a session with Elvis. The acetate measures 10 inches (25.4 cm) in diameter and is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated.

The record presents in playable condition with only minor scuffs and scratches. Excellent condition.
