Jailhouse Rock was one of Elvis’ most successful movies in earnings, grossing nearly $4 million and reaching number 3 on the Variety chart. This film was Elvis’ first for MGM and the third movie of his budding acting career. Elvis portrays Vince Everett, our anti-hero, an ex-con turned singing star, with the film following his trials and tribulations. Originally titled The Hard Way, the film was finally renamed Jailhouse Kid before MGM settled on Jailhouse Rock. The film also strayed from MGM convention: it was based on a story that wasn’t already a successful book or theater play. The black-and-white film premiered in Memphis, Tennessee, in October 1957 and released in November 1957. The movie catches Elvis in his prime, in full ascension to super-stardom as both actor and musical performer. The U.S. Jailhouse Rock posters are masterpieces of design and promotion of their era. The offered Australian daybill is an unusual example that strays from the colorful U.S. counterparts with its black-and-white design and simple yet painterly imagery. The daybill touts “Elvis Presley at his Greatest,” an appeal that was certainly confirmed by moviegoers around the world. The poster measures 30 by 13 inches (76.2 x 33.02 cm), is stored folded and is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated.

The poster exhibits its original factory folds and several pinholes at each corner and the center edges, as well as several small edge tears. Excellent condition.
