April and May of 1977 found Elvis on tour performing through much of the Midwest and East Coast, including North Carolina, Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Illinois, Tennessee, Kentucky, Maryland, Rhode Island, Maine, New York, Pennsylvania, Florida and Louisiana. These states comprise his third and fourth tours of the year and by the end, the rigorous schedule was taking its toll. However, on May 23, 1977, at the Civic Center in Providence, Rhode Island, fans were greeted by the Elvis they knew and repeatedly came to see, and Elvis did not disappoint. In the Providence, Rhode Island Journal Bulletin review of the concert, Elvis was described as “He was tremendous... Singing as though he really meant what he was singing, really putting his heart into, he reminded us all that he really has done it his way. The former truck driver from Tupelo, Miss., who scandalized all the 40-year-olds with his hip-shaking and such, who posed such a threat to society as we knew it, is a star now, and a big one. ... The packed house loved every bit of Elvis’ hour-long performance, and, by its very makeup, served to underscore the point that he hasn’t turned into a parody of his former self.” Offered are twenty-two (22) color snapshots of Elvis on stage for that May 23 concert wearing his gold Aztec calendar design jumpsuit, which he wore throughout the 13-day tour. Despite wearing the same jumpsuit for these concert tours, these photos are from the May 23 show as the photographer and source attended that performance. The processing date on the back of the photos is “NOV 77” indicating that the images were printed months after the concert. The photos each measure 5 by 3 1/2 inches (12.7 x 8.89 cm) and the group is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated.
The photos are free of defects. Near Mint condition.
