Having three movies under his belt, three appearances on The Ed Sullivan Show, concerts in the US and Canada, and multiple record releases, 1957 was a year of nationwide recognition and success for Elvis as his celebrity was quickly shooting through the stratosphere. By August, he had purchased Graceland and was seeing the blonde bombshell Anita Wood. His outward affection for her did not deter the multitude of female fans clamoring to steal a glance and obtain an autograph from their heartthrob. Offered is a black-and-white image of Elvis surround by fans eager to to get a signature from this young star. The photo contains the handwritten notations on the reverse “Elvis Presley / 8/23/57 / 80847 / ‘girls’ / (with Elvis)” and “20” in the lower right. The official news service photo measures 10 by 8 inches (25.4 x 20.32 cm) and is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated.
The photo is in excellent condition overall with remnants of editorial black grease pen markings along the front, minor creasing to the edges, and discoloring and surface soiling and paper residue on the reverse.
