Martin Bernard was a popular brand of clothing and coats in the 1960s and 1970s and Elvis not only owned several leather jackets and coats of this make, but he also purchased this brand for gifts as well. We have previously offered leather and fur-trimmed Martin Bernard coats that Elvis owned and wore as well as ones that he purchased as presented to give to close friends and family. Offered is a stylish leather, double-breasted trench coat with fur collar and cuffs that was worn by Elvis before giving it to his cousin Harold Loyd. The trench-style brown leather coat sports the “Martin Bernard, Ltd. /Internation Fashions” collar tag and comes with a letter from Harold on TCB executive stationery that states, “My name is Harold Loyd. Elvis and I are first cousins. I worked the grounds of Graceland for as long as I can remember. I’ve had countless friendships with so many of Elvis’ fans over the years. Over the years Elvis gave me and my family many gifts. That was Elvis’ nature, he was a wonderful human being and never forgot where he came from and what he owed his fans. This brown double breasted long coat with belt with fur trim on the collar and the cuffs belonged to and was worn by Elvis. The coat has a Martin Bernard tag in it. Many of these types of coats Elvis bought at Lanskys here in Memphis, He [sic] was his favorite clothing store to shop. He gave this coat to me one day when he was cleaning out his closets.” Not only was Elvis a regular customer at Lansky Brothers, but with his fashion-forward style, he put them on the map and was the best possible marketer for any brand they carried. Martin Bernard was one fashion brand that certainly benefitted from the King’s keen eye. The long coat measures 43 inches (109.22 cm) in length and is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated.

The coat presents with signs of heavy wear, some minor staining and scuffs to the otherwise supple leather. Excellent condition overall.
