Elvis’ trademark scarves became a regular fixture at his concerts in the 1970s, with Elvis handing them to adoring fans right off his neck and other versions being sold with the concert merchandise at shows. However, it was well before this period that Elvis adopted scarves and handkerchiefs into his personal wardrobe. Fashion was important to Elvis and he was typically ahead of his time and at the forefront of fashion. As early as the 1950s Elvis was captured wearing pocket squares and using handkerchiefs. Offered is a personally owned burgundy handkerchief with white edge stitching and a white embroidered stylized snowflake design near the center. The handkerchief comes with an original handwritten letter from Patsy Presley on “E.A.P. Graceland Memphis” silver embossed stationery dated “5/5/91” that states, “Here is your hankie. Hope we’ll be able to find a picture of Elvis wearing it. If not, it did belong to E.P. Now it’s yours.” The burgundy handkerchief measures 16 1/4 by 16 inches (41.27 x 40.64 cm) and is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated.
The handkerchief is in good, used condition with an area of soiling and wrinkles overall.
