Homer “Gil” Gilleland was Elvis Presley’s hair stylist for over 20 years. During Elvis’ career, it was nothing for him to pick up the phone and ask Gil to hop on a plane to come to Graceland, Hollywood, Las Vegas, or wherever he might be to do Elvis’ hair. Gil was the recipient of many gifts over the years, such as jewelry, cars, and even a house. Offered are a set of cufflinks that Elvis wore and were eventually given to Homer Gilleland as a gift. The gold-colored circular knot cufflinks with swivel toggle contain a rhinestone nestled in the center of each. The cufflinks come with a typed, signed letter from Homer Gilleland dated April 26, 1991 that states in part:
For over 20 years preceding his death, I was personal hairdresser to Elvis Aaron Presley. During my employ to Elvis he gave me many of his personal belongings (clothing, jewelry). These three pair of costume cufflinks were given to Elvis by one of his fans and he did wear them often during concerts. One pair is gold colored with large brown center, the other have a blue like marble center and the last pair is costume gold with a fake diamond in the middle. Elvis like [sic] to wear stuff like this on the road in case someth [sic] something fell off or got lost. I swear that these three pair of cufflinks were given to me by Elvis Aaron Presley during my employ and were worn by him.
While only one of the pairs mentioned in the letter is offered, one could not ask for a more specific accounting. The head of each cufflink measures 1/2 inch (1.27 cm) in diameter and the pair is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated.
The cufflinks are in overall excellent condition.
