The tradition of using colorful triangular souvenir pennants to represent schools, sports teams, clubs, etc. began around the turn of the 20th century. They were constructed of felted wool decorated with insignias, letters, names and logos of the affiliation they represented. In the 1950s, as the popularity of cars blossomed and adventure awaited on the open road, destination pennants arrived on the scene. It was not long before pennants were made for every beloved pastime and affinity, including musical groups. The Colonel was never one to miss an opportunity, and with Elvis performing his Summer Festivals at both the Las Vegas International Hotel and Del Webb’s Sahara Tahoe, a promotional pennant could serve both venues with the simple change of location. He also recognized the popularity of this collectible among fans and used the format to generally promote his superstar. Offered is an incredible sampling of period pennants in a variety of styles that include: a yellow International Hotel Summer Festival pennant, a white Sahara Tahoe Summer festival pennant, a tan and red “I Love Elvis” pennant with picture, a white and red “I Love You Elvis” pennant with side frame, three “The one and only Elvis” picture pennants, and three “I love Elvis” colored pennants. The collection of ten (10) displays ideal examples of this popular period keepsake. Each pennant measures 12 by 29 inches (30.48 x 73.66 cm) and the group is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated.

The pennants present with minor to moderate wear, with some missing felt at the tips. One “King of Rock and Roll” pennant is missing its photo. Excellent condition overall, with some slightly lesser.
