The award commemorates the sale of one million copies of Elvis’ final studio effort, Moody Blue. Released just weeks prior to his passing, the album was a mix of unreleased material from the previous year’s recording sessions and several live tracks. This award was most likely given to an RCA executive or employee, and the plaque reads, “Presented to MARK DOUGLAS to commemorate the sale of more than 1,000,000 copies of the RCA RECORDS long-playing record album ‘MOODY BLUE.’” Sales of the album soared after Elvis died, and the album was certified platinum by RIAA on September 12, 1977. The award measures 21 by 17 inches (53.34 x 43.18 cm) and is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated.
While the award itself remains unmarred, the wooden frame has several scuffs and scratches. Excellent condition overall.
