This official 192-page souvenir program comes from 1970’s 38th Annual Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo at the Astrodome, billed as the “World’s Largest & Wildest Rodeo.” The first Rodeo took place in 1932, when it was called the Houston Fat Stock Show and Livestock Exhibition, and it has continued to grow over the years, drawing many of the biggest recording artists and continuing to this day. Elvis’ six shows in 1970 on February 27, 28 and March 1 at the Astrodome during the Livestock Show were his first shows outside of Las Vegas since 1961. He attracted a huge audience, with Saturday night’s show having the largest attendance. In addition to Elvis, who commands his own full 2-page advertisement, Charley Pride, Bobby Goldsboro, Buck Owens and Roy Clark are featured in this souvenir program book. The other performers rounded out the 10-day concert schedule at the show. Also included in the program is a full-page ad on page 100 for the International Hotel in Las Vegas, perhaps some clever cross-marketing toward the audience for Elvis and his engagements at the International. The back cover is a full-page ad for Marlboro cigarettes. The program, measuring 11 by 8 1/4 inches (27.94 x 20.96 cm), is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated.

The program has some moderate wear to the binding and cover, with minor chipping and paper loss. Excellent condition.
