The Armed Forces Radio & Television Service was established in 1942 by the War Department to broadcast popular American radio and television to troops, government employees and families stationed overseas. It is still in operation today under the name American Forces Network, and over the years many stars have rallied to support U.S. efforts abroad. The offered record includes American tunes popular in the 1960s. Included on the album is Elvis Presley’s “Little Sister,” originally released in 1961 as a single with “(Marie’s The Name) His Latest Flame” on side A. The single reached number five on the Billboard charts.
The record is etched “AFD-477 Armed Forces Records / GXTV-931-E” on side AFD-477 and etched “AFD-478 Armed Forces Records GXTV-931-f” on side ADF-478. The songs include tunes from Wink Martindale, Ann-Margret, Ben E. King, Bing Crosby and Friends, and Ray Charles, to name a few. The Armed Forces red, white and blue label is printed “Property of the U.S. Government - Reproduction or Commercial Use Prohibited.” The 33 1/3 RPM record measures 11 3/4 inches (29.84 cm) in diameter and is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated.
The record is in excellent condition overall with minor surface scuffing.
