Anita Wood, an aspiring musician and actress with blonde bombshell looks, met Elvis in 1957 shortly after he purchased Graceland. At the time, Anita was in Memphis hosting the Memphis TV show Top 10 Dance Party. Elvis had instructed Lamar Fike to reach out to Anita and ask for a date for him. With a prior commitment, Anita refused and assumed the matter closed. A few weeks later, he tried again and Anita was available and so began a courtship that lasted from 1957 until 1962. Anita put her career aside as her relationship with this handsome prince progressed. This beautiful couple is depicited in a warm embrace in the offered black-and-white image of Anita Wood disembarking from an American Airlines flight to Memphis on the evening of September 13, 1957 early in their relationship. This famous image also adorns the cover of the book Once Upon a Time: Elvis and Anita written by Anita’s daughter Jonnita Brewer Barrett. This black-and-white printed image originally emanated from a Memphis Press-Scimitar collection despite having no markings on the reverse. The iconic image of two young lovers measures 10 by 8 inches (25.4 x 20.32 cm) and is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated.

The image is in excellent condition overall.
