Beginning as a radio program on April 3, 1948, the Louisiana Hayride was broadcast from the Municipal Auditorium in Shreveport, Louisiana. The show was emceed by Horace Logan and Frank Page and was broadcast mainly in the South, nationally on CBS Radio and internationally on Armed Forces Radio. Elvis performed at the competition to the Hayride, the Grand Ole Opry, on October 2, 1954 and after a cool reception, Sam Phillips booked Elvis on the Louisiana Hayride. Elvis first performed live on the Louisiana Hayride on October 16, 1954. Elvis’ weekly Hayride shows were the venue where Colonel Parker first saw Elvis perform and were instrumental in the development of Elvis’ early stage presence. It was Elvis’ last appearance on the Louisiana Hayride show in December of 1956 when announcer Horace Logan first spoke the now-famous phrase, “Elvis has left the building.” It was the success of his appearances on the Louisiana Hayride that launched his overwhelmingly successful career. Offered is a 1955 Louisiana Hayride souvenir program that has been signed by Elvis and 15 other featured performers. Elvis has signed “Yours Elvis Presley” on the back cover, along with Jim Reeves, Jimmy Lee, David Houston, Betty Amos, Norm Bale (Hayride announcer from KWKH radio), comic singer Buddy Attaway, Billy Walker and Wayne Walker. On the interior pages, several other stars have signed, all on their respective pages, including Hoot Raines, Johnny Horton, KWKH Program Director Horace Logan, Jimmy Newman, Slim Whitman, Jim Edward and Maxine Brown. The program represents an incredible assemblage of autographs from Elvis’ contemporaries in country music. Research by Hayride historian Joey Kent has indicated that the night when all of the artists who have signed the program were at the same performance would have been July 16, 1955. A star-studded memento from this significant period in Elvis’ fledgling career. This program’s cover and pages measure 11 by 8 1/2 inches (27.94 x 21.59 cm) and it is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated.

The back cover and many interior pages have separated at the binding fold, and the program exhibits heavy distresses like creasing, folds and edge wear. Despite all this, the signatures remain bold. Good condition overall.
