This early 1955 black-and-white promo photograph depicts a young Elvis Presley with folded hands wearing a wristwatch. “Elvis Presley” is printed in the lower left margin and “160 Union Ave, Memphis, Tenn” is printed in the lower right margin. The photo has been signed “love ya Elvis Presley” in the lower center of the reverse in ink. Bob Neal, Elvis’ manager at the time, sent him to Memphis photographer William Speer to have some publicity shots taken that could be used to promote the singing career of this new musician. Speer took 11 different images, the offered being an example of one pose and likely the first and most widely used to promote the budding career of this young artist—although five other images were shirtless poses of Elvis prompted by Speer’s wife in response to the fact that Elvis had brought no change of outfit for the session. This early example is a necessary component of any important collection. This photo measures 10 by 8 inches (25.4 x 20.32 cm) and is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated.
The photo presents with multiple condition issues including a large fold, some surface chipping in several areas, age-related toning, pinholes and areas of staining. Very Good condition.
