During the 1970s concert tours, Elvis utilized a variety of styles, types and colors of badges to be able to easily distinguish building personnel and tour members with backstage and other levels of access from the throngs of fans and audience members. The style, color and size of these badges also varied for different concerts and different venues to ensure security. Badges included fabric stick-on types, ribbons, metal ID cards and clip-on buttons. The offered example is a button with a clip back that is numbered 373 and belonged to Sonny West. Delbert Bryant “Sonny” West, Jr. met Elvis in 1958 and worked for Elvis as a bodyguard from 1960 through 1976. Elvis was best man in Sonny’s 1970 wedding to actress Judy Jordan. As a member of the entourage and bodyguard to Elvis, Sonny would travel with Elvis on the show tours and concert circuit. The badge comes with a letter, dated March 20, 2006, from Sonny West that reads in part:

This letter is to confirm the authenticity of a show member badge worn by me on tour with Elvis Presley. It is one of several types worn during the years identifying individuals as members of the Elvis Presley Show while touring in cities around the country. This particular type is made of metal and is bright yellow in color with black printing. It has ELVIS printed across the top in large letters and IN PERSON is smaller print in the middle. The number 373 is at the bottom in same size print as the word ELVIS. There is a metal clip on the back for attaching the badge to the clothing.

Also included are two modern prints of photos showing Sonny wearing this style of badge. The badge is 2 inches (5.08 cm) in diameter and is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated.

The button shows only the most minor oxidation on the reverse. Near Mint condition.
