The compilation of Elvis’ hit singles from 1956 and 1957, considered to be the first “Greatest Hits” album ever issued, was the first of five Elvis’ Golden Records volumes to be released. The last, issued in March 1984, was a compilation of Elvis’ hit singles between 1968 and 1977. In October 1977, between the release of Elvis’ Golden Records Volumes 4 and 5, RCA released a special collectors’ series of 45 RPM records as a box set, with every box containing 15 records, each in a full color picture sleeve. This offered original, complete browser carton with sealed box sets (as well as the following lot) emanates from the family of an employee from the RCA Indianapolis Pressing Plant, one of the three largest and most strategically located of RCA’s vinyl manufacturing plants. This collectors’ series touted “15 Golden Records / 30 Golden Hits,” with each sleeve individually numbered PB-11099 through PB-11113 and the box set numbered PP-11301. This original in-store display for this collectors’ set comes with a full five (5) sealed box sets included. The bright yellow browser carton was specifically printed with black lettering for retail display and lists the full 30 songs that are included on the fifteen 45 records on both sides of the display: “It’s Now or Never/A Mess of Blues”; “Jailhouse Rock/Treat Me Nice”; “Any Way You Want Me/Love Me Tender”; “In the Ghetto/Any Day Now”; “Hound Dog/Don’t Be Cruel”; “Return to Sender/Where Do You Come From”; “Loving You/Teddy Bear”; “Can’t Help Falling in Love With You/Rock-A-Hula Baby”; “Blue Suede Shoes/Tutti Frutti”; “Are You Lonesome Tonight/I Gotta Know”; “Heartbreak Hotel/I Was the One”; “Suspicious Minds/You’ll Think of Me”; “I Got Stung/One Night”; “All Shook Up/That’s When Your Heartaches Begin”; and “Crying in the Chapel/I Believe in the Man in the Sky.” The assembled counter display box measures 15 1/2 by 7 1/2 by 9 1/4 inches (39.37 x 19.05 x 23.49 cm) and each sealed package of 45s measures 7 1/4 by 7 1/4 by 1 1/2 inches (18.41 x 18.41 x 3.81 cm). The removable back panel to the display reads “RCA Records / Collectors’ Series Limited Edition / ELVIS PRESLEY / 15 Golden Records 30 Golden Hits / Individually Packed in Full Color Photo Sleeves.” This text and the song listing also appears on each sealed set of 45s. Printed at the bottom of the back panel, among other production-related text, is “DATE 6-2-78” along with the complete song list. This choice retail display complete with five sealed boxed sets is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated.

The seals on the record sets have some areas of separation, but remain intact. The display itself shows signs of scuffing and some small tears, most likely from storage. Near Mint condition overall.
