American Express began issuing credit cards in 1958 and as the age was dawning for paying on credit more frequently than with check or cash, Vernon Presley became a credit card-carrying member of American Express in 1969. The American Express slogan of “Never leave home without it” became a mantra for the evolution of retail payments as more and more people began using these credit lines over cash and Vernon Presley was included in this new payment revolution. The offered American Express card issued to Vernon E. Presley is signed on the reverse by Vernon in bold, blue ink with only his first name showing signs of wear from use. The iconic Centurion design of the American Express card, recognized worldwide, appeared on the very first card issued in 1958. That same classic logo appears at the center of Vernon’s card, which was valid from 07/77 thru 06/78. Vernon’s American express card, likely carried in his wallet, comes with another classic identifier in the form of Vernon’s bright red business card listing him as “Captain” of “Executive Administration / EP Enterprises / 397-4427 / Memphis, Tenn.” The printed script name of Elvis Presley appears in the lower right, with the TBC logo in gold in the upper left and a star of David overlaid on a gold cross in the upper right. The back of the card is blank since the front moniker says it all. The American Express card measures 2 1/8 by 3 3/8 inches (5.39 x 8.57 cm), the business card measures 2 1/8 by 3 1/2 inches (5.39 x 8.89 cm) and the pair are accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated.

Each card is in excellent condition.
