Elvis was truly the All-American success story, having gone from a two-room house to achieving the pinnacle of fame in the entertainment world with his talents, having served his country in the Army, and having always been supportive of the troops and law enforcement throughout his lifetime. Therefore, it comes as no surprise that in 1956, as Elvis was making headlines and being loved by teenagers around the country, Lou Monte created the song “Elvis for President.” That year Dwight Eisenhower and Adlai Stevenson were in the Presidential race, yet Lou Monte’s song garnered over 5,000 write-in votes for the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll. Never one to shy away from a marketing gimmick, the Colonel quickly capitalized on the popularity of this theme by creating buttons that said “Elvis for President” to be distributed among fans. The Colonel was not the only one to carry this torch as fans would create and carry signs reading “Elvis for President,” “Presley for President” and a number of different variations. With fans cheering him on, even Elvis once jokingly announced his Presidential bid at a concert. Offered are two black-and-white negatives of images of Elvis surrounded by fans with these very signs in the background. One can only imagine the popularity of such a campaign today! Each negative measures 5 by 4 inches (12.7 x 10.16 cm) and the pair is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated.

The negatives present with few if any defects. Near Mint condition.
