In April of 1972, Elvis went on tour from the 5th to the 19th and hit 14 cities: Buffalo, Detroit, Dayton, Knoxville, Richmond, Roanoke, Indianapolis, Charlotte, Greensboro, Macon, Jacksonville, Little Rock, San Antonio and Albuquerque. Several concerts were filmed for the MGM documentary Elvis on Tour. Elvis was in good spirits throughout the tour and remarked, “You know, we do two shows a night for [four] weeks, but we never let it get old. Every time is like we do it for the first time - and that’s one of the secrets.” This wildly popular tour received praise from fans and press alike, and as reviews observed, “More than a pop hero, Elvis is indisputably an American Institution.” With a heavy schedule of packed stadiums and arenas, special backstage passes were made for this tour to allow for the crew’s easy access into secure areas so that the show could run efficiently before, during and after the performances. While most badges or passes in the ’70s were constructed of cloth with a sticker-back, the ones designed specifically for this tour are the more unusual paper badges with a similar sticker backing that remains perfectly intact on the offered examples. Due to the fragility of the paper material over the cloth, this type did not survive as often. Offered are five pristine examples in all five colors—green, black, blue, pink and orange letters stating “Now On Tour / Elvis / April, 1972” on a white card stock background. The passes each measure 2 1/4 by 3 1/2 inches (5.72 x 8.89 cm) and are accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated.

The passes are in pristine Near Mint to Mint condition overall with the backings intact and the orange badge exhibiting a minor nick to the top edge.
