“The Chokin’ Kind” was a 1967 song by Waylon Jennings that was later recorded in 1969 by Joe Simon. The song was Joe Simon’s first hit single on the R&B charts, where it remained for three weeks. Offered are two awards to Scotty Moore for his work on the song. The first award from Sound Stage Seven is a “Certificate of Appreciation to Scotty Moore, Engineer, Music City Recorders, Inc. for contributing to developing Joe Simon into a major recording artist, enabling his recording of ‘The Chokin’ Kind’ for Sound Stage Seven Records, Inc., to sell in excess of 1,000,000 records.” This paper certificate, with gold seal and red and purple ribbons, is applied to a wooden backing and contains stamped signatures of John D. Richbourg, Producer and Allen J. Orange, Director of Promotion. The award measures 10 by 15 by 1 inch (25.4 x 38.1 x 2.54 cm). The second is a gold record award for Joe Simon’s “The Chokin’ Kind” that was “presented to Scotty Moore for contributing to the development of Joe Simon into a major recording artist enabling his recording of ‘The Chokin’ Kind’ for Sound Stage 7 Records to sell in excess of one million records.” This framed display, with a red velvet background, measures 13 by 12 by 3/4 inches (33.02 x 30.48 x 1.90 cm) and emanates directly from the estate of Scotty Moore. Accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated.
