Elvis had a keen fascination with world religions and as an avid reader continually increased his knowledge of the subject. Although raised attending the Assembly of God Church and claiming Christianity as his faith, Elvis was interested in his own Jewish heritage from his mother Gladys’ side of the family. Offered is an interesting image that captures the cross section of Elvis’ faith with the instrument he used most frequently to express himself and his beliefs on the world stage. Offered is a large color photo, the content of which was designed by Elvis’ close and long-time family friend Janelle McComb, that depicts Elvis’ own Gibson J200 guitar on an altar with both Christian and Jewish adornments. Perhaps Elvis’ favorite guitar was this Gibson J200 which he used early in his career. Elvis had a custom tooled-leather cover made for it to provide protection to the surface from his heavy and strong use. After Elvis returned from his Army service, he sent the guitar out to be refurbished in 1960 at which time he had “Elvis Presley” inlaid in the fingerboard and a stylish ‘60s design pick board installed. Elvis used this guitar in Wild in the Country and for his live performances in 1969 thought 1971, which are well documented. This priceless relic now resides in the Graceland Archives collection. Images abound of Elvis playing this guitar, both before and after restoration, as it was this treasured instrument that stayed with him throughout his career. The photo not only celebrates Elvis’ faith and spiritual life but also the guitar he so cherished. The careful arrangement of the image was art-directed and created by Janelle McComb so one copy was given to the museum in Tupelo and the offered copy hung in the McComb home. The rare and giant photographic print measures 30 by 24 inches (76.2 x 60.96 cm) and is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated.

The photo presents with only minor edge wear and discoloration on the reverse from mounting adhesive, which has in no way affected the front. Excellent to Mint condition.
