After four years of recording only film soundtracks, Elvis once again returned to non-movie related albums. He recorded his 1968 Christmas television special soundtrack, better known as his Comeback Special, which became the springboard for his return to live performances. After this success, Elvis recorded his 10th studio album called From Elvis in Memphis. Released in June of 1969, the twelve tracks were recorded at American Sound Studio in Memphis in January and February 1969. Elvis used the American Sound Studio’s house band, known as the Memphis Boys, to give the album’s sound a country soul flare. The album reached the thirteenth spot on the Billboard charts and number two on the country charts, while the single “In the Ghetto” reached number three on the Billboard charts. The album was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) in 1970.

Offered is the original white linen matte RIAA gold record award that was issued in 1970. This framed award displays a plaque, next to a small image of the album cover and mounted beneath the gold record, that reads “Presented to ELVIS PRESLEY to commemorate the sale of more than one million dollars worth of the RCA RECORDS long-playing record album ‘FROM ELVIS IN MEMPHIS,’” all set against a white linen matte background. The reverse contains the framing label from New York Frame & Picture Co. on 29 John Street in New York. This album signaled a new beginning for Elvis as it ushered in a new decade when Elvis would return to the stage to reaffirm his position as the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll. The framed award measures 21 1/2 by 17 1/2 inches (54.61 x 44.45 cm) and is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated.

The award is in excellent condition overall.
