Elvis recorded “Can’t Help Falling in Love” on March 23, 1961 at Radio Recorders in Hollywood for the Blue Hawaii film soundtrack. The single was released on October 1, 1961 with “Rock-A-Hula Baby” on the reverse. While the song peaked at number two on the Billboard charts, it was a fan favorite, so Elvis sang the song as the finale during his live performances in the late ’60s and ’70s, including his last ever concert in Indianapolis at the Market Square Arena on June 26, 1977. The song was also sung during his comeback special in 1968 and at his live broadcast show “Aloha From Hawaii” the album release of which also included this song. The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) would award singles gold status for sales in excess of one million copies.

While RIAA awarded the single gold in 1962, the offered original white linen matte RIAA gold record award was likely issued after 1964 when RIAA began issuing this particular style of award. This framed award displays a plaque mounted beneath the gold 45 that reads “Presented to ELVIS PRESLEY to commemorate the sale of more than one million copies of the RCA RECORDS Pop Single Record ‘CAN’T HELP FALLING IN LOVE’.” The reverse contains a framing label from New York Frame & Picture Co. on 141 Fulton Street in New York. The success and popularity of this tune will forever remain in the hearts of fans around the world and is a lasting reminder of the legend of the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll. The framed award measures 17 1/4 by 13 1/8 inches (43.81 by 33.34 cm) and is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated.

The award is in excellent condition overall.
