Please note: The description originally listed 1961 as the year the song was certified gold by RIAA, but as stated in the title, the designation and award were done in 1983.

This framed RIAA Certified Gold Sales Award was “Presented to Elvis Presley to commemorate the sale of more than one million copies of the RCA Records Single Record ‘Are You Lonesome Tonight’” by Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). Shortly after the end of his Army service, Elvis returned to the studio and in April 1960 recorded “Are You Lonesome Tonight.” The song, originally written by Roy Turk and Lou Handman in 1926, was suggested by Colonel Parker because it was a favorite tune of his wife. The recording was released as a single with “I Gotta Know” on side B on November 1, 1960 and topped the Billboard chart after selling 1,200,000 copies by the second week after its release. The song remained at the top of the charts into January the following year and sales exceeded two million copies worldwide just three months after release. This framed display features a gold-colored record above a gold-colored plaque, both mounted to appear as if they are floating against a black backing with gold frame, and measures 17 by 13 inches (43.8 x 33.02 cm). The framed award is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated.

The award is in excellent condition overall.
