At the end of May 1963, Elvis spends three days in RCA’s Studio B in Nashville recording 14 masters. These songs, intended to create an album and a single release, will end up as only “(You’re the) Devil in Disguise” as the A side of the single while the others are used in the coming years as additional singles or on soundtrack albums as bonus selections rather than the initially intended album. The single release with “(You’re the) Devil in Disguise” and “Please Don’t Drag That String Around” on side B was issued in June 1963 shortly after it was recorded and sold almost 700,000 copies. The song peaked at number three on the US billboard charts and number one in the UK for one week while remaining number one in Denmark for 13 weeks. Offered is a doubled-sided RCA Victor Reference Recording acetate that contains songs from this May 1963 recording session that include on side 1, “Love Me Tonight,” “Memphis, Tennessee,” “(It’s A) Long Lonely Highway,” “Ask Me,” “Western Union,” “Slowly But Surely” and “Ask Me.” Side 2 includes “Echoes Of Love,” “Echoes Of Love (different take),” “Please Don’t Drag That String Around,” “(You’re The) Devil In Disguise,” “Never Ending,” “What Now, What Next, Where To,” “Witchcraft” and “Finders Keepers, Losers Weepers.” The acetate has an RCA Victor Reference Recording black-and-white label with handwritten notations in blue ink of “33 1/3 / M31 / Misc. P-0067-A / 8 Bands / E. Presley” with additional notations including “5/29” along the top. The label on the reverse contains similar notations in blue ink, “33 1/3 / M31 / Misc. P-0067-B / 7 Bands / E. Presley” along with the “5/29” marking and a large asterisk drawn with black marker. Two songs from this acetate are used in the Kissin’ Cousins soundtrack that was released in April 1964. The acetate measures 12 inches (30.48 cm) in diameter and is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated.

The side B label has a small area of loss at the edge and both sides are discolored from age; the acetate itself exhibits edge wear with moderately heavy scuffs and some scratches to the surface overall. Very good condition.
RCA Double-Sided 33 1/3 RPM Acetate with 15 Songs from Elvis Presley’s Recording Session on May 26-28, 1963, Including “Devil in Disguise” and Songs from <em>Kissin’ Cousins</em> Soundtrack
