As Elvis’ career was on the rise in the mid to late ‘50s, Elvis participated in radio show broadcasts, a popular medium of the day, including the Louisiana Hayride. He was often featured in the souvenir programs and the offered pair are a prime example of these early promotional materials. Included is a program for George “Hound Dog” Lorenz’s “Great ‘Rock N Roll’ All-Star Anniversary Show” which included a full page on the young star. Lorenz was a pioneer radio DJ who presented rhythm and blues in a format that generated a new buzz for the music. This program with its pink cover and portrait of George Lorenz describes Elvis as “Unquestionably America’s number one box-office draw! ... Whether it be records, a TV appearance or a personal appearance Elvis is the man who draws the most.” The glowing description continues and is followed by an image of Elvis during his TV appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show when he serenaded a real live hound dog. The program kindly titles this “Elvis Presley Salutes The Hound Dog” and elaborates by saying “When Elvis and RCA Victor informed the Hound Dog that Mr. Presley had ‘A Sound For The Hound’ no one was more surprised than George ‘Hound Dog’ Lorenz. George was told to watch TV on Sunday night for a big surprise and that it was! The first recording of Elvis’ ‘Hound Dog’ was played on WKBW.” (The station on which the George Lorenz program was aired.) The second program is a song book and picture album for The Wilburn Brothers Show in which Elvis is pictured and identified. This program has a handwritten notation of “Brenda Dodgens” in the upper right with the reverse containing the original mailing information to Brenda in Pickens, South Carolina. The return address simply lists PO Box 99 in Nashville, Tennessee. The pair is an ideal original sampling of the variety of programs and advertising in which Elvis was included at the very start of his meteoric rise to fame. Each program measures 11 by 8 1/2 inches (27.94 x 21.59 cm) and the duo is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated.

Both programs exhibit moderate to heavy wear with creasing and some wear on the edges. Excellent condition.
