When Elvis returned from his service in the Army, he was welcomed home to great fanfare. Elvis was released from his duties on March 5, 1960, came home to Graceland on March 8 and by March 21, Elvis was traveling to Miami to film a special on ABC at the Fontainebleau Hotel. This 1960 television special was known as Welcome Home Elvis (officially titled It’s Nice to Go Traveling) and was hosted by Frank Sinatra and sponsored by Timex. This was Elvis’ first television appearance since returning from his service in Germany. A special moment as two beloved and well respected musicians performed together in a mash-up of each of their hit songs, “Witchcraft” and “Love Me Tender,” with each singing the other’s hit in a version all their own. Elvis also sang “Stuck on You” and “Fame and Fortune,” from his first single release since his service. Elvis was paid handsomely for the show at $125,000 (reportedly more than the famous host himself). The show, taped on March 26, 1960, was aired on May 12 on ABC (American Broadcasting Co.) to high ratings with almost 50% of the American viewing audience tuned in. Offered is a pair of “American Broadcasting Company” 12-inch 33 1/3 RPM acetates (three sides) from Elvis’ appearance on the show. Each acetate’s label reads “‘Sinatra – Timex Show’ Miami May 12, 1960” and then indicates the side, 1-3. The pair is accompanied by the original “Audiodisc” envelopes. These one-of-a-kind acetate discs were purchased by the consignor on August 30, 2018 from the estate of Richard Dunlap, who was the director of the Frank Sinatra Timex Show. Richard Dunlap predeceased his American actor partner William Swan. The estate sale was held at the Monterey, MA home Dunlap shared with Swan. The acetates come with a letter confirming the acquisition. These unusual and rare acetates, with impeccable provenance, from an historic broadcast of two greats of the day are a spectacular find and a treasured relic. Each acetate measures 11 3/4 inches (29.84 cm) in diameter and the pair is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated.

Both acetates present in playable condition with only minor scuffing. Excellent condition, minimally.
