On March 7, 1960, Elvis arrives home to Memphis via train at 7:45 a.m. in the middle of a snow storm after completing his Army service. That afternoon, Elvis conducts a press conference in Vernon’s office behind Graceland with almost fifty reporters. He is so thrilled to be home that he tells journalists, “I just can’t get it in my mind that I’m here.” That dreamy look of someone returning to home and civilian life is captured on Elvis’ face in the offered color transparency. Elvis is seated at his dad’s chair in his office, stroking a stuffed dog that is facing Elvis on the desk. Elvis begins acclimating back into Memphis life by visiting his mother’s grave the very next day. While many images exist from this press conference, the offered view has rarely if ever been seen. The transparency measures 2 1/2 by 2 5/8 inches (6.35 x 6.66 cm) and is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated.

The negative is in excellent condition overall.
