From The Oleander Collection

Elvis was arguably the most accomplished entertainer of all time, with not only countless albums and concert tours in North America from 1954 though 1977 (during which he performed over 1,500 concerts in 41 states and 240 cities, many multiple times), but he was an on-screen Hollywood legend as well. From the early triumphs of Love Me Tender and Jailhouse Rock, to the ’60s blockbusters Blue Hawaii and Viva Las Vegas, to the ’70s concert documentaries Elvis: That’s the Way It Is and Elvis on Tour, Elvis’ film career was second only to his extraordinary accomplishments as a musician. He enjoyed a fan base around the globe and as a true celebrity of epic proportions, fans everywhere wanted to catch a glimpse or snap a photo of Elvis. A star of this magnitude needed assistance, and at his right hand was his foreman, Marty Lacker. The two were schoolmates and after each served in the Army, they reacquainted, and Marty went to work for Elvis. Marty was not only a member of the Memphis Mafia, but he was helping to run the show behind the scenes. Marty was like a brother to Elvis and was even best man in Elvis’ wedding to Priscilla in 1967.

Offered is a collection of photographs, originating from Marty Lacker, most of which are inscribed, with almost all personalized “To Marty.” The signed photos include the following: Ann-Margret (Viva Las Vegas, “To ‘Spanky’ My every good wish to you--Ann-Margret [Ann-Margrock!]), Mary Ann Mobley-2 Photos (Girl Happy, Harum Scarum), Donna Douglas (Frankie and Johnny), Pat Priest (Easy Come, Easy Go), Shelley Fabares (Girl Happy, Spinout, Clambake), Julie Parrish (Paradise, Hawaiian Style), Diane McBain (Spinout), Dodie Marshall (Spinout, Easy Come, Easy Go), Fran Jeffries (Harum Scarum), Deborah Walley (Spinout), Suzanna Leigh (Paradise, Hawaiian Style), Julie Adams (Tickle Me), Chris Noel (Girl Happy), Joan Freeman (Roustabout), Evie (Unidentified Actress), Jimmy Hawkins-2 photos (Girl Happy, Spinout), Bill Bixby-2 photos (Clambake, Speedway), Harry Morgan (Frankie and Johnny), Billy Barty (Roustabout, Harum Scarum), Gary Crosby (Girl Happy), William Schallert (Speedway), Anthony Eisley (Frankie and Johnny), Jack Mullaney (Tickle Me, Spinout), Norman Grabowski (Roustabout, Girl Happy), Carl Betz (Spinout), James Garner, Jackie Wilson, Unidentified Actors-3 photos.

The snapshots include the following groups: Elvis at U.S.S. Arizona Memorial-5 photos; Elvis on stage wearing American Eagle Jumpsuit in 1973 or 1974-5 photos; Elvis signing autographs (with Marty Lacker)-4 photos; Elvis in Hawaii while filming Paradise, Hawaiian Style; Elvis at karate demonstration; Elvis in car with Marty; Elvis at Graceland gate-2 photos; miscellaneous-including photos of Graceland (1), Priscilla Presley (1), and TCB band on tour (3). It should be noted that some of these photos were most likely taken by other people or fans and sent to Marty, but it can also be assumed he or his wife took a number of them.

Twenty of the snapshots measure 3 1/2 by 3 1/2 inches (8.89 x 8.89 cm), and four measure 5 by 3 1/2 inches (12.7 x 8.89 cm). Thirty one of the signed photos measure 10 by 8 inches (25.4 x 20.32 cm), and two measure 7 by 5 inches (17.78 x 12.7 cm). The comprehensive group is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated.

Several of the photos are adhered to album pages, but most only show minor wear. Several have tears and minor paper loss. Most of the small snapshots are free of defects, but several have tape on the front and a few have areas of paper loss. Excellent condition overall, with some lesser.
