The Armed Forces Radio & Television Service was established in 1942 by the War Department to broadcast popular American radio and television to troops, government employees and families stationed overseas. It is still in operation today under the name American Forces Network, and over the years many stars have rallied to support U.S. efforts abroad. The offered Armed Forces Radio & Television Service record features popular music from 1967 and contains a slightly truncated version of the soundtrack for Elvis Presley’s 1967 film Clambake on one side that includes the seven songs “Guitar Man,” “Clambake,” “A House That Has Everything,” “Confidence,” “How Can You Lose What You Never Had,” “Singing Tree” and “Just Call Me Lonesome.” Clambake was Elvis’ 25th movie and was released in December 1967. In this campy flick Elvis plays the role of Scott Hayward, a young man who is heir to an oil fortune and goes undercover as a waterskiing instructor in order to see if he can win women’s affection as himself rather than as a millionaire. The other side of the record contains five tracks from the 1967 album Live at the Lighthouse by jazz trio The Three Sounds which was recorded at the Lighthouse Club in California. Both sides of the accompanying original sleeve read “Armed Forces Radio & Television Service / Property of the United States Government.” The 33 1/3 RPM record measures 12 inches (30.48 cm) in diameter and is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated.

The record presents with just a few defects to the vinyl, and moderately more wear to the Elvis side of the label. Excellent condition.
