High school is a pivotal time in a young student’s life; memories are cherished and keepsakes are plentiful… varsity jackets, class rings, photos, and yearbooks. Elvis’ upper-class yearbook from 1953 with his senior picture has been offered, and even his junior year Humes High School yearbook, while more scarce, has been available, yet it is his underclassman yearbooks that are most uncommon.  Offered are a pair of Humes High School yearbooks from 1950 and 1951: Elvis’ freshman and sophomore years of high school. While Elvis may not have a portrait picture, he is depicted in several photos throughout the books. Typically underclassmen did not warrant personal portraits (this was reserved for the upperclassmen), yet Elvis does appear in several photos in each of the offered yearbooks, with his name listed in several places.

In the yearbook from 1950, Elvis’ freshman year, he is listed on page 66 with the Library Workers. He is also depicted on page 83 with the Members of the Certification Class, pictured (third row from top, 11th from the left) and on page 84 with his name listed in homeroom “9-1.” In the 1951 yearbook, Elvis can be found on page 29 in the “A” Company Second Platoon (ROTC), pictured and listed as “Elvis Pressley” [sic], and on page 59 where he is pictured in Speech Class. A solid number of mentions and photographs for an underclassman. Perhaps overlooked for the lack of a senior portrait, but Elvis is nonetheless very well represented as a handsome and active underclassman. Each yearbook measures 12 by 9 inches (30.48 x 22.86 cm) and the lot is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated.

Both books present with moderate to heavy wear including minor damage to the binding, some small stains and wrinkles. Both books are intact with all pages. Excellent condition.
