Turquoise is the national stone of Tibet, the birthstone for December and is often used to describe the color of the waters in Turkey, from where the stone found its way to Europe. The stone is known for its mystical properties of ensuring health, good fortune and protection from evil. In the United States the stone was widely used by Native Americans in their ceremonies, jewelry and trading with other tribes and cultures. In the second half of the 20th century, the stone became a fashionable type of jewelry in American popular culture. Offered is a silver bracelet, weighing 19 grams, with a central, inlaid figure of a roadrunner set with turquoise and brown colored chips. Additional turquoise chips are used to create the word “Beep” appearing to emanate from the bird’s mouth. The design is reminiscent of the fast-running, quick-escaping character known as Road Runner from the Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies cartoon series created in the late 1940s, in which Wile E. Coyote repeatedly attempts to ensnare the Road Runner and fails each and every time. The Road Runner character made only the sound of “beep beep” each time he escaped. The cartoon appeared on Saturday morning television in the late 1960s when Elvis very well may have been tuning in. This fun-themed bracelet contains markings around the road runner giving the effect of speed. The sides of the cuff bracelet exhibit more typical Native American stylized stampings in the metal. This entertaining bauble comes with a letter from Letetia “Tish” Henley that reads in part, “The turquoise bracelet was owned and casually worn by Elvis Presley. … I do attest that this turquoise bracelet was the personal property of Elvis Presley. Elvis casually wore the bracelet and personally gave it to my husband when we were in Lake Tahoe.” The amusing theme of the bracelet is certainly in keeping with Elvis’ good humor. The bracelet measures 2 1/2 by 2 inches (6.35 x 5.08 cm) and is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated.

The bracelet shows signs of moderate to heavy wear on the interior, while the inlaid turquoise and red stones show little signs of wear. Near Mint condition.
