Turquoise is an ancient stone that dates back thousands of years with Egyptians adorning themselves in jewelry fashioned with the stones. The name turquoise comes from the French expression “pierre tourques” or Turkish stone as the stone itself likely found its way to Europe from Turkey. Turquoise became a centerpiece stone for Native American ceremony and exchange and held special meaning. In the U.S. in the 1960s and ’70s, Native American and turquoise jewelry realized a big boom in popularity and with the advent of the hippie movement, celebrities like Cher, Jim Morrison and even Elvis was wearing this new style. Always at the forefront of trends and fashion, Elvis adopted and embraced this new accessory with pieces of turquoise jewelry adorning his jumpsuits, fingers, wrist and neck. Offered is a classic example of the style of turquoise jewelry that Elvis preferred. The center turquoise cabochon stone, measuring 6 mm, is set in a squared silver mount atop a leaf and ball design applied to the base and weighs 6.5 grams. The silver ring, with diagonal lined shoulders, exhibits two markings on the interior, one is the makers mark “PB,” and the other is “925,” a reference to the 92.5% silver content of the ring, identifying it as sterling silver. The ring comes with a letter from Letetia “Tish” Henley that reads in part, “The turquoise ring was owned and casually worn by Elvis Presley. … I do attest that this turquoise ring was the personal property of Elvis Presley. Elvis casually wore the ring and personally gave it to my husband when we were in Lake Tahoe.” The ring, measuring a man’s size 7 3/4 with the stone face measuring 1 by 3/4 inches (2.54 x 1.90 cm), is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated.

The ring shows signs of moderate wear but exhibits no damage. Near Mint condition.
