In December 3, 1968 Elvis appeared on the NBC television special fondly referred to as the “‘68 Comeback Special,” known as such because this was the pivotal moment sparking Elvis’ career rejuvenation. The broadcast was ranked as the top-rated television special that year. A sexy Elvis in black leather pants and jacket was back on stage and the fervor of fans was back in force. RCA released the album, entitled simply Elvis, in November 1968. Offered is a collection from this special television event sponsored by Singer Corporation that includes: three Singer promotional cards produced to promote the two separate television broadcasts of Elvis Presley’s NBC “Elvis TV Special.” The original NBC special was broadcast in December 1968, and then in the summer of 1969 NBC re-broadcast the show and replaced the song “Blue Christmas” with the tune “Tiger Man.” The white card with red and blue lettering featuring the promotion for the Sunday, August 17 broadcast is rarely seen, since the 1968 special was much more widely promoted by NBC and the Singer Corporation. Both promotional cards, from the original and rebroadcast, mimic Elvis’ name in lights with red dots forming the title of the show. The original promotional colors were yellow and red, with an ad for the “Touch & Sew Deluxe Zig-Zag Sewing Machine” on the reverse; the rebroadcast promo card is in bright white with an advertisement for the new Singer sewing book on the reverse. Also included is a postcard with a large image of Elvis wearing his leather and strumming his guitar, with the reverse promoting the August 17, 1969 television special broadcast and Elvis’ appearances at the International Hotel in Las Vegas. The promotional cards each measure 3 by 6 inches (7.62 x 15.24 cm), the postcard measures 5 1/2 by 3 1/2 inches (13.97 x 8.89 cm) and the group is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated.

The postcard has a small area of adhesive residue at the top and bottom on the front (Excellent condition), but the other two promotional cards present with few if any defects. Near Mint condition.
