Recording for Elvis’ 34th album, entitled Elvis, which was released by RCA in November 1968, took place in Hollywood at Western Recorders from June 20 to 23 and in Burbank at NBC Studios on June 27 and 29. The music from these recording sessions was used in the televised special sponsored by Singer Corporation called “Elvis” (more commonly known as the “’68 Comeback Special”). The NBC television special that aired on December 3, 1968 is widely acknowledged as the precursor to the “unplugged” concept—another first in the entertainment industry pioneered by the King. Offered is a rare yellow-gold original ticket for the June 27, 8:00 p.m. session at NBC in Studio 4. The ticket lists the address of NBC Color City as 3000 W. Alameda Ave., Burbank, California, with the performance listed as “‘ELVIS’, starring ELVIS PRESLEY / IN COLOR / Children Under 12 Will Not Be Admitted.” Guests are encouraged to arrive at 7:00 p.m. This ticket is numbered “45” on the left front. During the June 27th shows, Elvis performed sitting down and for this second show, rubber mats were placed at the feet of Elvis and the band to muffle any sounds from their tapping feet on the recordings. The reverse of the ticket states stipulations that include:

Complimentary Ticket - Not To Be Sold / This card of admission is void unless presented at the studio and seat taken by the time specified on the face hereof. Children under 16 not admitted unless accompanied by parents or guardians. Age rules subject to change according to specifications on face of ticket. As this is a complimentary ticket, NBC reserves the right to revoke it at any time. In accepting this card, holder consents to being televised directly or by means of television recording and to use of holder’s name and likeness or either, and releases National Broadcasting Company, Inc., any sponsor of the program specified on the face hereof and its advertising agents from liability for loss or damage to person or property and agrees to comply with all rules and regulations of the National Broadcasting Company, Inc.

The broadcast of the NBC “’68 Comeback Special” was wildly successful and the top-rated television special of the year, and known for revitalizing Elvis’ career. The ticket measures approximately 1 1/2 inches by 4 inches (3.81 x 10.16 cm) and is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated.

The front of the ticket is free of defects, but the reverse has a large area of adhesive residue. Excellent condition.
