From the Trude Forsher Collection

Elvis’ love for Hawaii ran deep and during his lifetime he visited often. Whether it was to perform concerts and benefits, film a movie or just to vacation, the islands would always draw him back. Elvis first sailed to Hawaii from Los Angeles aboard the first-class Matson Line ship, the SS Matsonia, on November 5, 1957. The Matsonia was part of the fleet of liners owned by the Matson Navigation Company that began servicing Hawaii in 1882. In the mid-1950s, after war-time service, the ship Monterey was rebuilt and renamed the Matsonia. It was on this cruiser that Elvis took his maiden voyage to Hawaii in 1957, where he was scheduled for three concerts, including a performance for troops and their families at the Schofield Barracks in Honolulu. The voyage across the Pacific took several days, during which Elvis’ new film Jailhouse Rock opened in theaters. After Elvis’ success in Hawaii, he returned to the Pacific Coast aboard the SS Lurline, which had joined the Matson fleet in 1908. Offered is Elvis’ very own stateroom key and fob from that return voyage aboard the SS Lurline. One can imagine Elvis returning to his West Coast offices and handing his secretary, Trude, the key from his pocket. The key measures 2 by 1 inches (5.08 x 2.54 cm) and is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated.

The key and fob present with expected wear. Excellent to Mint condition.
